What is copyright? Copyright is a form of protection provided for original works of authorship, including literary, dramatic, musical, graphic and audiovisual creations.
What is copyright infringement? Copyright infringement occurs when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner.
Posting copyright-infringing content may lead to the termination of your story, and possibly monetary damages if a copyright owner decides to take legal action (this is serious—you can get sued!). Below are some guidelines to help you determine whether your video is eligible or whether it infringes someone else’s copyright.
CancerIS respects the rights of artists and creators. We hope you will work with us to keep our community a creative, legal and positive experience for everyone, including artists and creators.
Please use your imagination, experience and skills to share something completely original. That’s the best way ensure that your video doesn’t infringe upon someone else’s copyright. If it’s all yours, music, images or video, you never have to worry about the copyright—you own it!
Be sure that all components of your video are your original creation—even the audio portion. For example, if you use an audio track of a sound recording owned by a record label without that record label’s permission, your video may be infringing the copyrights of others, and may be subject to removal. There are multiple websites that have royalty free music available. If you are making your own video or slideshow simply type “royalty free music” into your favorite search engine. Notice that sites may or may not charge a fee to download. A common misconception is that “royaty free” means no charge when in essense it really means that you can use without having to pay fees each time it is heard. From Wwikipedia .”Royalty-free, or RF, refers to the right to use copyrighted material or intellectual property without the need to pay royalties or license fees for each use or per volume sold, or some time period of use or sales.”
